Hat-Trick

Really looking forward to tonight's Hat-Trick lecture, courtesy of the Typo Circle at JWT. Big fan of their stuff, particularly enjoyed this recent work for Scottish Opera.

She's back

Been waiting with baited breath for the new season of Mad Men - and it's finally here - starts tonight on BBC Four. Which means the return to our screen of Peggy Olson - the hicksville secretary who transformed herself into copywriter with her very own office. Now we're approaching the mid 60s, I'll be paying close attention to the new fashion moves and all that wonderful attention to detail on set!

My new favourite site

Amazing, crazy navigation on the Wonderwall website, Masamichi Katayama's Tokyo-based interiors studio. I love the intuitive, highly visual way you navigate the various projects, all leading to exciting, inspirational work for clients such as Uniqlo and Original Fake. One for the bookmarks.

Hat trick

Looking forward to the Typographic Circle's next lecture: Hat Trick, on 28 Jan at JWT. Always producing great quality, eye-catching stuff, so it'll be interesting to hear the stories behind the work.

Seaside chic

Andy Tuohy's work first caught my eye on a trip to St Leonard's Norman Road antique shops back in May. I love the way he brings the amazing art deco Marine Court and a simple beach windbreaker to life in this monumental, travel posters of yore way. He's based in Canterbury and all of his illustrations feature icons of the south coast, including the gorgeous De La Warr Pavillion in Bexhill.

Birdsong

Listening to the first birdsong of the year - the tree out of the window is tweeting (old school!) away. Could this be the first sign of spring?

Forgotten film of the last decade?

Anyone else catch Terrence Mallick's 2005 movie The New World recently on FilmFour? A beautifully shot, superbly acted film, telling the story of the first settlers to America and their encounters with the natives. Shot with natural light and with references to Dutch landscape painting, with wonderful, dream-like musical interludes featuring the natural soundscape, the film could be a lost classic. Seems I'm not the only one to think so, read John Patterson's recent piece at the Guardian here.

Shop window of the decade...so far

An inspired Doctor Who fan and employee of the Hove Oxfam branch has made a fantastic double-take of a window display. Two seemingly innocuous mannequins dressed in a suit and hoodie become, with the addition of David Tennant's and John Simm's faces, the Doctor and the Master! Add a few daleks toys and a flying blue police box and you get the shop window of the decade. Loving your work!
