Sussex snow

Headed out for an amazing walk in the Downs on Saturday. Up at the crack of dawn for a quick hike up Devil's Dyke and Newtimber for some fantastic snowy scenes. Cannot recall another snowfall like it - with some paths virtually unpassable with their drifts beyond my knees!

Fry up

What better way to escape the December hail than pop into Hove's finest greasy spoon, the Brown Sugar Cafe on Western Road. The perfect antidote to Christmas shopping – and a great way to fill up on my way into town on a cold midwinter day. Thank you!

Lunchtime adventure

I'm working in Reigate at the moment and the other day spotted a poster for an exhibition of John Spencer, artist/illustrator/printmaker. He was kind enough to talk me through his work and show me his amazing studio downstairs - where drawers of type (Plantin, Bembo, Perpetua and Gill) competed for space with woodblocks, presses and paper. His work ranges from one off lithographs, wood engravings, adventures in letterpress and whatever he might find lying in the street that has print potential! An inspiration. You can see more of his work here.

December treats

The beautiful advert calendar at www.kiosco.de is a perfect way to start each day in December. These clever folks have comissioned illustrators and designers to create unique images behind each day of the month. Today's image - above - is by the talented Eva Siegert. Beats chocolate any day!

The world's smallest library?

A wonderful idea - creating a tiny community library within an old telephone box. The village of Westbury-sub-Mendip was due to lose both its iconic red phonebox and local library. The solution? Buying the phonebox and installing shelves to create a miniature book swap shop. Read more here.
